Benefits of using drawing layers |
Layers can be a useful tool when working with drawings. These layers can be turned on or off to enhance visibility or to suppress drawing items. 2D drawing entities (for example, dimensions, notes, drawing formats) can be controlled to layers. Some items like drawing views and OLE objects cannot be controlled via layers.
The example shown in Figure 1 is the same drawing with the layers turned on and off. These can be turned off temporarily and turned back on later. This could also be used when exporting 2D geometry to a downstream application. Working with layers
To create a new layer, change layer visibility, change the active layer, or edit the characteristics of a layer (i.e., name, color, line type, or thickness), select the Layer icon When creating a new layer it is good practice to use color to help denote the different layers. This gives a visual clue as to what entities are on a drawing layer.
The Layers dialog box shown in Figure 3 can be used for the following:
Note that if the selected layer is turned off, you can create 2D entities and they will not appear. The layer needs to be turned back on.
